Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

...is a functional test used to provide a unique cellular reading of the mineral and heavy metal levels in your body. By analyzing small samples of recent hair growth, you can get a snapshot of what your body has been exposed to and what it is eliminating through the hair. This data is valuable for prioritizing which diet and lifestyle strategies will be most effective for addressing your bioindividual needs.

If you're like me, no one ever told there was an easy, non-invasive way to test for mineral deficiencies in our bodies! With this testing, you will learn what your body needs, how to address those needs, and how to best support your body's detoxification needs.

How do I take the sample?

After purchasing a kit, your will receive an email with detailed written and video instructions. You will also receive a physical kit in the mail which you will use to take the sample and mail to the lab in a pre-paid envelope. Once your hair has been tested, I will receive the results via email and we will meet over Zoom for a 1 hour review to discuss your results. Why are minerals so important?

Minerals are elements that are essential for hundreds of physiological functions, including nerve signaling, muscle contraction, electrolyte balance, digestion, pH regulation, bone structure, blood sugar balance...the list goes on! You can think of minerals like "spark plugs" because they act as cofactors for thousand of metabolic reactions in your body. Mineral balance is foundational to nutritional therapy and essential for health + vitality!

Why should I be concerned about heavy metals?

Heavy metals are elements that are toxic when they accumulate in the body. We are exposed to heavy metals everyday via our food, water, and environment. While important to reduce exposure whenever possible, it is also critical to support the body's ability to detoxify + excrete heavy metals. The HTMA provides insight into how to best support this detoxification process.

How long does it take to get results?

Typical turn around time is 2-3 weeks after the lab receives your hair sample

How much hair does it take?

It only takes about 1 tsp., or .125 g, of hair cut from 3-4 locations on your scalp. Your test kit includes a hair scale which will help you measure the hair precisely.  The hair that will be sent to the lab will be just the 1/2"-1" of hair closest to the root.

Why do you use hair?

Hair is ideal tissue for testing. It can be cut easily and painlessly and reveal mineral status & toxic accumulation.

Can I take the test if I dye my hair?

Yes!  However, I do recommend waiting at least 3 weeks and 8-10 washes after color treatment.  Please indicate on the test form that your hair has been color treated. It is ideal to wait until the roots have grown out & hair sample is only untreated hair.

What if I am bald?

We can take hair from other places such as chest, beard, armpit hair and even from nail clippings!  I can guide you through the process if you don't have enough scalp hair. If using body hair, it is imporant to follow the directions closely to avoid contamination from sweat.
